INTERVIEW: Scoot/Diea Lone (musician)

Based out of Southern California, Scoot (AKA Diea Lone) produces mellow beats and meaningful lyrics. Having gone to a few of his shows, I see major talent and can't wait to see, or rather hear, what he has coming up next.
Further, I wanted to do an interview with him because his lyrics stand out against the majority of the industry that are prominently about how much money they make, what brands they're wearing, etc (although I have to admit, I listen to that too). But its so refreshing to hear someone that has something to say; a real message that is long lasting.
Apart from what he has currently has up on SoundCloud, he also leads "Ghost Pack" (which you'll read about in the interview) and has a new project coming up. Enjoy!!

Q: How long have you been making/writing music?
SoundCloud tells me six years. That's my earliest post...My first post was six years ago. I used to make parody mixes of songs.
Q: What do you like to write about? What are your songs about?
I mainly write about social struggles that I go through in a way to relate to people. I typically try to have a variety. I try to relate. I think weird-ass thoughts and I know everyone does too, so I want to relate to them.
Q: Tell me about your new project. What is it?
I have an album coming out soon. It's not like anything I've ever made.
Q: How is it different?
Album flow. It's more cohesive. It's gonna be themed. Yeah...it's gonna be better. Also sound quality, instrumentation, I'm gonna use less synthesizers and more natural sounds.
I'm gonna use two to four instruments per song so nothing crazy. I've been trying to think of more abstract writing.
Q: How long does it take you to make a song?
It depends. I've done multiple songs in one day to a few months for one song. It depends. I'll be working on a beat then make something else then think of more shit.
Q: Who do you pull inspiration from? Which artists do you like?
Earl Sweatshirt. And a lot of random SoundCloud music. Chance the Rapper and just a bunch of weird shit I don't know the names of. Just weird shit I find.
Oh! and Nico Case. Nico Case is the shit.
Q: What are YOUR goals?
My goals are to tour and make classics. That's my goal. I don't really care about Grammy's and awards n shit. I wanna make music that people enjoy. I'm definitely not gonna make a profit.
I just wanna be that person where you're like "I don't know who it is but it's great"
Q: Do you play around with other forms of art?
I like to paint. Not to make creative pictures but just to put paint on canvas. I like the action of doodling.
Anything really where I can be creative. Dancing. Painting. I can't sit still for too long. I need a Fidget Spinner like...for real.
Q: What is Ghost Pack?
Mainly just a brand of artsy shit that I do. As of right now, it's me and two other artists that are really different, but we like to work on shit. But we're independent. Just the brand and the homies that want to expand the brand. We have our solo stuff and projects together. More of like a network to expand each other's stuff. We all do stuff but don't get exposure, but don't care to be "me me me". We all fit this dialogue.
Q: Any shows coming up?
Probably not gonna do shows til early next year once I finish the album.
THAT BEING SAID: Keep a look out for Diea Lone's new album coming out early next year!
