This morning I went to see my Abuela at La Monarca Bakery in Uptown Whittier, a part of the city that has a small-town vibe with cute little boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants including of course, La Monarca. They serve Mexican inspired pastries such as guava croissants and cakes. Mainly I enjoyed the coffee! All their beans are sourced from Latin countries who have some of the best beans in my opinion. The roast my Abuela got was from Oaxaca, Mexico and I got an Horchata Latte!
There are new coffee shops popping up left and right, especially in places such as LA that are getting more and more gentrified. However, this coffee shop stands out among the rest by maintaining its "mom and pop" vibe and having the mascot of the Monarch butterfly which symbolizes migration. While most of us who are working hard each day are fueled by coffee, I think its important to be mindful and support small businesses. We can all help each other out in little ways each day. I think its a beautiful concept and can't wait to come again!
